Hand-turned from Australian Silky Oak, a native timber prized for its warm honey-gold colour and the distinctive lacewood ray fleck that shimmers across the grain. Each pen is finished to a glass-smooth shine and fitted with a smooth twist-action mechanism.
This timber carries a story. It was grown on a family-owned farm just west of Byron Bay, New South Wales, planted more than 30 years ago and harvested by hand. I collected every piece of this timber from that farm myself, so each pen is made from genuinely traceable, ethically sourced Australian native timber.
Because Silky Oak is a natural material and each pen is individually hand-turned, the grain and colour of your pen will be similar but not identical to the one shown. Every piece is one of a kind.

About the timber
Silky Oak (Grevillea robusta)
A little about the timber: Silky Oak isn't a true oak at all — it's a native of eastern Australia (Queensland and northern New South Wales), warm honey-gold in colour and best known for its distinctive "lacewood" ray fleck, the shimmering figure that appears when the wood is quarter-sawn. Lighter and more open-grained than the eucalypts (density around 600 kg/m³), it's a genuine pleasure to work, and that ray figure makes every piece visually distinctive.
